The main function of a landing collar is to provide a way of setting hydraulically actuated oil tools by using a ball which lands on a ball seat. They also provide a profile for landing and bumping the wiper plugs at the end of displacement. Landing collar inserts have a profile to latch the wiper plugs in place to prevent them from rotating during the process of drilling them out. This design also provides a secondary back flow stop for the float shoe. For highly deviated or horizontal applications, the ball seat can be manufactured with a special profile to guide the ball to the ball seat. They are normally placed one or two joints above the nearest float collar. We manufacture landing collars with the ability to install various aluminum inserts provided to us by our customers.
